Where are your manners!?

We have talked about the importance of RSVP now let's discuss the importance of sending Thank You's. I will be the first to admit that I am not the best at it or even very timely but that doesn't mean that it doesn't need to get done. Thank You's are so impactful and endearing and a really thoughtful and inexpensive way to show someone you were thinking about them. Just tonight I was just discussing with a friend about this very topic and we both agreed how nice it is to receive a handwritten note in the mail-yeah..snail mail. It’s a way to to show thankfulness of peoples generosity and appreciating the kindness of others.

Need a few pointers? I came across this article from www.LifeHack.org

Email is nice; a personal card is better- It’s really easy to send email. I just sent a thank-you that way, and that’s what prompted me to post this. And yet, looking back, I think it’s much nicer to send along a physical card. A personal note written by your own hand inside matters far more than a few lines of type into a window that’s so easily available at your fingertips. It shows you care enough to take an extra step.

Write specifically- We’ve all done it: we get a gift from someone around the holidays or our birthday but we forget who sent what, so we send out that generic “Thanks very much for the gift.” People know. They feel a little less special when you’ve sent a generic reply. I find that people respond really well to targeted responses. “Thanks for the copy of IMPROV WISDOM. I really look forward to reading it, and look forward to discussing it with you when we talk next.” That’s simple, brief, and targeted.

Use nice cards and a nice pen- If you’re going to go this route, put in the extra few minutes to purchase nice notecards and use a pen that gives you decent flow. You don’t have to break the bank to still give a professional and yet personal presence via the thank-you note you select and the ink you use to sign it. And, just like attractive-looking people don’t always have a great voice for radio, an expensive pen isn’t always the best flowing pen.

In person- Make sure you say thank-you to people face to face when you have the opportunity. The same “content” applies. Be brief, be specific, and be warm about it. Say so in an unhurried way, looking into the person’s eyes. It is not enough to just say the words, or at least it won’t have the same effect. Don’t make it into a miniseries TV moment, but do try to make sure the person senses how important their contribution to your life really was.

I won’t belabor the point more than this. Thank the people in your life who add value, and make sure you spread a little good karma that way. Be kind and generous in your thanks, and the results will almost always be favorable.

Are you coming or not?

I recently read a short note from Angelen VanDaele, the Publisher of The Wedding Chronicle based in Arizona and she hit a great point that many of us, including myself, are guilty of; RSVPing. She basically wrote (in so many words) that whether you can attend an event (that you receive an invitation to) you need to R.S.V.P. either if you can make it or not and not doing so is inconsiderate to the party thrower. Kudos to Angie for writing it because i agree with her and I know that many others do as well.

So let's refer back to the basics. What does RSVP mean? The term comes from the French expression "répondez s'il vous plaît", meaning "please respond". Unless the invitations states "regrets only" all guests that receive an invitation need to communicate if they will be attending or not. It is important for all parties big or small because it helps the host put together accurate menus and party needs for the appropriate amount of people and having guests that show up without a formal R.S.V.P. is just plain rude and unthoughtful.

I know from personal and client experience that tracking down the people that have showed no response with an array of phone calls and emails is very time consuming and could easily be avoided if everyone responded correctly. So...please...no matter if you can make it or not please R.S.V.P (on time).

Many thanks to Angie for opening up that can. :)

Color; The beginning of your wedding design

Color is key when planning any type of soiree, especially your wedding. It's hard to see through the trends of bold colors to the traditional neutrals. It is also difficult to envision what your colors will look like together and how they will be presented at your wedding...well...not anymore. If you haven't played or heard of it before check out Modern Bride's interactive color studio. It consists of a traditional color wheel that you can spin randomly or specifically to obtain different hues and color combinations in a place setting setting. Be careful because I wouldn't necessarily recommend all the suggestions the color wheel comes up with, but it is sure fun to spin. Have fun spinning!!!

My Big Fat Fabulous Wedding; My Guilty Pleasure

I just finished watching the second episode of VH1's "My Big Fat Fabulous Wedding" and was in total awe and amazement by the extravagant weddings that were produced thus far. I will say first and foremost that you don't have to spend an extraordinary amount of money to have a Fab Wedding. Couples that have the opportunity to put these events together...well...more power to them. I can't judge because fabulous weddings, events and people who throw them is my business. I say bring it on! Below are a few of the season's finest. Stay tuned and let me know what you think! The show aires every Thursday night on VH1 at 9:00pm EST.

Passing it along...

So my good friend and equally fabulous planner Liene from Blue Orchid Designs is making me to the whole "tag your it" blog thing. We both decided that we had no problems talking about ourselves but actually putting a list together of 8 fun facts about me is hard! Here we go!!!

1. I have titanium metal in both my ankles. An injury from the Olympics (ok, my backyard Olympics)
2. I have an addiction to lemon juice. Ask me about my "Tuna Soup" one of these days.
3. I get most of my work done in the wee hours of the night.
4. I cried when I met 2 of the original munchkins from The Wizard of Oz. I know, I am a total dork.
5. I sing back up for a band which I totally love doing! Music is another big passion of mine.
6. I love documentaries and independent films. Dying to go to Sundance soon.
7. I was accepted to Up With People in high school but couldn't raise the money to go. One of my life's regrets.
8. I think I am funny! LOL

Ok...so let the games continue.

Now it's your turn...who are the lucky chosen ones?

1. Dilia Wood at Inspirador
2. Kelly & Victoria at The Bright Gallery
3. Vane: the Brooklyn Bride herself
4. Rebecca at Jewel Couture
5. Melissa of Melissa Jill Photography
6. Will at Highrise Creative (update will!)
7. Aleasha with A Day to Cherish
8. Abby at Style Me Pretty

Looking forward to reading more about you all.
